A few days before the scheduled portrait appointment, test different clothing styles. Decide if you prefer a formal portrait or a more casual portrait style, then coordinate your family's look. Remember to set aside your sentimental items chosen for the portrait session. Your portrait shouldn't be viewed as just another picture, but rather, view it as a captured moment in time with your family.
Formal Appearance:
- The formal look exemplifies a conservative demeanor befitting the distinguished characteristics of your

- Business or formal attire, comprising of solid colors is preferable. All members of your family
should have a coordinating color scheme.

- Denim, sweaters, turtlenecks, or other apparel separates should also contain a coordinating scheme among
all of your family members.
- Dark colors have a slimming effect on the body form, while light colors tend to emphasize body proportions.

The color theme within your family's fashion style should be kept simple with compatible colors. Solid colors photograph the best. Dark-colored slacks, a pant suit, or a skirt with matching hosiery are the most pleasing attire choices since your portrait will be photographed in natural color.
Be creative with your family portraits. Make use of any special or sentimental items that reflect the true spirit of your family.
Plan your wardrobe and grooming at least one full day before your scheduled portrait appointment. Directly
before your appointment, men may want to shave, and ladies should retouch any makeup. Bring brushes
and other hair essentials for last minute hair fixes. Also you may prefer to bring along a pair of empty
frames, since eyeglass lenses can cause a glare and harsh shadows, or wear contacts for your session.
